Independent curator
In front of Pieter Vermeersch' contribution to Super!
I have been working as an independent curator for about twenty years, mainly in Belgium. From 1987 until 1993 I ran the not for profit exhibition space Parbleu in Antwerp. After this, I worked as a freelance art critic for national radio and the daily journal De Standaard as well as curator until I became director/curator of MDD-Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Deurle in 1999. Here I made several challenging group and solo exhibitions amongst which in my last year at MDD in 2004, a show on Icelandic art and a rather groundbreaking show with Santiago Sierra. I then decided to work freelance again, curating the first edition of the Super!Triennial for Visual Arts, Fashion and Design in Hasselt, the multidisciplinary Thursdays at deSingel in Antwerp (season 2006-2007) and the Multi/plier show for Galerie Filles du Calvaire in Brussels.
Currently I am working on Parallellepipeda - a project on the colloboration between artists and scientists which will result in an exhibition spring 2010 at M in Leuven. All my freelance work is brought together under the umbrella of ed.projects - international art agency which also includes the management on demand for a choice of artists.
