I am a curator, writer and photographer working predominantly in the West Midlands. Born in Birmingham in 1981, I studied BA Photography at Surrey Institute of Art graduating in 2003 to later obtained an MA in Critical and Contextual Art Practices in 2006. As a contemporary curator I often find myself in a self-debate; am I a curator interested in artistic and thoughtful modes of display? Or am I an artist interested in curatorial practice? My curatorial practice is based upon alternative ways of exhibiting art. I particularly enjoy working with audience participation, construction of pathways and manipulating their journey and encounter with an art piece. Along with this idea of manipulation, one of my main concerns is that of collaboration; I work closely alongside artists that work in a wide array of mediums, to achieve a ‘different’ way of exhibiting and showing their works particularly through visual tools seen in archives like curiosity cabinets and casing. My practice has lead to me curating a group show at International Project Space Birmingham, and a variety of car parking spaces asnd other public spaces, most notably a series of lamp post sculptures in Bournville by Matthew Robinson. My ongoing relationship with artists throughout the UK has also lead to various commissioned essays and reviews.
